Be a part of science and become involved with the various studies taking place here at the UC San Diego Center for Healthy Aging and Stein Institute for Research on Aging. The following studies are currently recruiting participants:

The GRADE Study

The goal of the GRADE study is to try to determine which combination of commonly prescribed diabetes medications is the best long-term treatment for people with diabetes.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Have had Type II diabetes for less than 10 years
  • Are over 30 years old
  • Are American Indian over 20 years old
  • Only take metformin (Glucophage®) for your diabetes or are willing to start taking metformin
  • Are willing to take a second diabetes medication
  • Are willing to make four office visits per year in the next 4-7 years

Alzheimer's Caregiver Study

We are interested in helping caregivers whose spouses have Alzheimer's disease live happier and healthier lives. We understand that caring for your loved one can be challenging at times and therefore you might need some help. The purpose of our study is to help caregivers cope with the challenges that arise from caring for their loved ones.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are the spouse of someone with Alzheimer's and you are living with them
  • Are at least 55 years old
  • Have no serious mental illness
  • Have no history of stroke or heart attack
